A Santa Fe Tour For Women Over 50

Santa Fe feels distinct from the moment you arrive: the adobe architecture, the mountain light, the food, the art and the deep cultural roots. Our five-day trip shows you the many sides of this part of the Southwest in a way that feels personal and full of substance, with no international flight and no passport to arrange if you are a US citizen.

You see the city through the things that bring it to life. You wander Canyon Road, meet local creatives, enjoy live music, take a hands-on cooking class and spend time with Native American artisans. The trip also reaches beyond the city, to Chimayó with its weaving heritage and revered sanctuary, and to Abiquiú, where red cliffs and clear light explain why Georgia O'Keeffe was so drawn to this land.

The trip is designed for women over 50. Groups are small, with up to 12 women, and over 80% of our guests travel solo. Not sure a group trip is right for you? Read our guide to solo travel groups for women over 50.

Highlights Of The Santa Fe Tour

Canyon Road and the art of Santa Fe

Galleries, sculpture gardens and adobe courtyards along one of the most distinctive art streets in the country, with coffee in a courtyard and live regional music, and a conversation with the owner or curator of a woman-owned photography gallery.

A hands-on cooking class

Learn the flavors, ingredients and techniques of the region at a woman-owned cooking school, then sit down to lunch with the meal you prepared together.

Native American artisans

An optional walk to see artisans displaying handmade jewelry, pottery and textiles, a first introduction to living traditions that remain central to Santa Fe.

The Plaza, live music and New Mexican food

A welcome dinner of classic New Mexican cuisine, live music at the Plaza, a tapas dinner, and a celebration dinner known for its tableside guacamole.

The Farmers Market

Browse the stalls, sample local flavors and see the region's agricultural life and community spirit come together.

Chimayó

A historic village known for its weaving tradition and the Santuario de Chimayó, a place of pilgrimage. Enjoy a picnic lunch with a multigenerational family connected to Northern New Mexico's lowrider culture.

Abiquiú and Georgia O'Keeffe country

Red cliffs, wide open skies and stark desert light, with time to relax and take in the landscape, or to enjoy a hike. On your free afternoon you can visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe.

Time to enjoy it your way

An afternoon at leisure, with options such as the outdoor soaking pools and cedar sauna at Ten Thousand Waves or a light hike in the Santa Fe National Forest, followed by a scenic train ride through desert and mountain landscapes.

Santa Fe Itinerary: 5 Days, Day By Day

How Active Is The Santa Fe Tour?

The tour is rated easy to moderate. It includes walking tours, cultural visits and time outdoors. You should be comfortable walking up to two hours at a steady pace, standing during guided visits, and navigating uneven surfaces, steps and outdoor terrain. There is also an optional light hike in the Santa Fe National Forest.

Santa Fe sits at a high elevation, so some activity may feel more tiring than you expect. The trip suits women who can manage a moderately active itinerary and are comfortable with high desert conditions, time outdoors and some uneven ground.

Best Time To Visit Santa Fe: April

Our Santa Fe trip runs in April, in spring. At about 7,000 feet the air is dry, sunny days can be followed by cool evenings, and the sun is strong. Bring layers, sun protection and a refillable water bottle, and drink plenty of water, especially in your first days.
