Santa Fe, New Mexico Tour
Art and Living Traditions of the Southwest
April 14-18, 2027
About Our Santa Fe, New Mexico Tour
Santa Fe is one of those places that feels distinct from the moment you arrive. The adobe architecture, the mountain light, the food, the art, and the deep cultural roots all give it a character that is hard to confuse with anywhere else. Over the course of this journey, you’ll experience the many sides of this part of the Southwest in a way that feels personal, engaging, and full of substance.
You’ll experience the city through the things that bring it to life. We’ll wander Canyon Road, meet local creatives, enjoy live music, take a hands-on cooking class, and spend time with Native American artisans sharing work rooted in generations of tradition.
The trip also reaches beyond Santa Fe itself. We’ll visit Chimayó, with its weaving heritage and revered sanctuary, and continue to Abiquiú, where red cliffs, open landscapes, and clear light help explain why Georgia O’Keeffe was so drawn to this part of the world.
Along the way, there will be great food, thoughtful local encounters, and time to enjoy Santa Fe at your own pace. This is the kind of trip that lets you experience the Southwest through its art, its flavors, its landscapes, and the people who give it life, leaving you with something much deeper than a simple visit!
Daily Itinerary
Upon arrival you’ll be picked up at the airport and taken to our hotel near the heart of Santa Fe. After some time to settle in and unwind, we’ll head out for an orientation walk through the Santa Fe Plaza, where adobe buildings, shaded corners, and the steady rhythm of daily life offer a first feel for the city. In the evening we’ll gather for a welcome orientation and our welcome dinner, featuring classic New Mexican cuisine.
After breakfast we’ll set out to experience a unique side of Santa Fe, one shaped by art, landscape, and the slower pleasures of the city. Our morning will begin on Canyon Road, where galleries, sculpture gardens, and adobe courtyards sit tucked along one of the most distinctive art streets in the country. We’ll pause for coffee in an atmospheric courtyard accompanied by live regional music, then visit a respected woman owned photography gallery for a conversation with the owner or curator about visual storytelling and the creative life of Santa Fe. After lunch and some time to relax, the afternoon will be yours at leisure to enjoy it your way. Options include unwinding at Ten Thousand Waves with its outdoor soaking pools, cedar scented sauna, and mountain setting, or heading out for a light hike in the Santa Fe National Forest among aspens, piñon, and juniper. In the early evening we’ll board a scenic train ride through wide desert and mountain landscapes, with huge horizons and beautiful light, before ending the day with a fun group dinner at a local favorite known for its Southwestern comfort food.
This morning, those who wish will be able to join an optional walk to see Native American artisans displaying handmade jewelry, pottery, and textiles, a wonderful introduction to the living traditions that remain such an important part of Santa Fe. Afterwards we’ll come together for a hands-on class at a woman owned cooking school, where we’ll dive into the flavors, ingredients, and techniques that define the region’s cuisine. Lunch will be part of the experience, giving us the chance to sit down and enjoy the meal we’ve prepared together. The afternoon will then be free, with options such as visiting the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum for a deeper look at her life and work, or spending time browsing Santa Fe’s mix of artisan shops and boutiques. Our tour leader will be there to help with suggestions or arrangements. In the evening we’ll gather again for live music at the Plaza, followed by a group dinner of Spanish tapas, a lively way to spend another night in the heart of Santa Fe.
After breakfast today, we’ll head to the Santa Fe Farmers Market, one of the best places to see the region’s agricultural life and community spirit come together. There will be time to browse the stalls, sample local flavors, and take in the bustling atmosphere before we set out by private van into Northern New Mexico. Our first stop will be Chimayó, a historic village with deep cultural roots, known for its famed Santuario, long weaving tradition, and strong sense of place. Here we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch with a multigenerational family connected to Northern New Mexico’s lowrider culture, offering a side of the region that most visitors never get to experience. We’ll also visit the Santuario de Chimayó, a place of pilgrimage and quiet beauty, before continuing on to Abiquiú, where the dramatic red cliffs, wide open skies, and stark desert light inspired many of Georgia O’Keeffe’s most famous works. There will be time to relax, take in the landscape, and perhaps enjoy a hike before we return toward Santa Fe for a celebration dinner at a New Mexico favorite known for its tableside guacamole and excellent margaritas!
You will be picked up at the hotel by a private driver who will take you to the airport for your departing flight.
