Itinerary
Welcome to Romania! Upon arrival, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to our centrally located hotel - an easy, comfortable start designed to help you settle in without stress. After some time to rest and refresh, we’ll gather in the evening for a relaxed tour orientation, followed by our first shared dinner together at one of Bucharest’s most beloved traditional restaurants in the atmospheric Old City.
This first evening is about easing into the journey, meeting the women you’ll be traveling with, and letting the rhythm of Romania gently take hold.
Today we begin discovering Bucharest on foot, moving at a comfortable pace through neighborhoods that reveal the city’s many layers. Our walk along Victory Street takes us past markets, street art, and historic landmarks before entering areas filled with elegant early 19th-century mansions and unexpected creative corners.
We’ll visit the impressive Obor Market - recently named “The Top Market in Europe” - where we’ll meet vendors, sample fresh local foods, and enjoy a glass of Romanian wine. After visiting the Palace of the Parliament, we’ll return to our hotel before gathering again in the evening for dinner at a famous restaurant that has been welcoming guests for over a century.
It’s a day that balances discovery with comfort, and curiosity with plenty of time to take it all in.
Leaving Bucharest behind, we head toward the mountains. Our drive brings us to Sinaia, where we’ll visit the peaceful Sinaia Monastery and learn how this serene religious site became a royal retreat. From there, we see the outside of Peleș Castle, the former summer residence of Romania’s kings, beautifully set among fir trees with the Carpathian Mountains rising behind it.
After lunch, we travel onward into the heart of Transylvania, soon arriving in the charming medieval city of Brașov. Once checked in to our accommodation, we’ll enjoy a gentle evening stroll through this colorful, picturesque town before sitting down to dinner at a longtime local favorite known for its warm atmosphere and comforting cuisine.
Today is dedicated to truly getting to know Brașov. With our local guide, we’ll explore Romanian and German neighborhoods, visit traditional family-run businesses, and learn how different communities shaped the city over centuries. Highlights include the Black Church, medieval city gates, and the historic main square.
You’ll also have free time to wander at your own pace - perhaps enjoying a coffee and some treats at a traditional bakery, browsing small shops, or taking the funicular up Mount Tâmpa for sweeping valley views. In the evening, we regroup in lively Piata Sfatului before enjoying dinner at a restaurant led by an award-winning local chef.
This morning we drive to Bran, home of the iconic 13th-century Bran Castle. We’ll explore the castle at an easy pace, taking time to enjoy both its interior spaces and surrounding gardens.
Afterward, we’re welcomed into the home of Gabriela, a local craftswoman and dear friend of our team, who lives in a nearby village. Here, we’ll share a home-cooked lunch and watch a traditional Romanian egg-painting demonstration - a meaningful folk art passed down through generations. We'll be able to try our hand at egg-painting as well. The afternoon is unhurried and personal, offering a genuine connection to daily life in rural Romania.
We return to Brașov in the late afternoon, where your evening is free to enjoy as you wish.
Today we journey into Romania’s quieter corners. Our first stop is Crăciunel, a small Hungarian village where life still revolves around farming, crafts, and community. Few travelers come here, and that’s exactly what makes it special.
We’ll visit a homemade village spa, meet a local woodcarver in his workshop, sip herbal tea blended by the village priest, and taste chestnut cookies made from nuts grown nearby.
After lunch, we continue to the beautiful village of Corund, check into our guesthouse, and visit a black pottery studio to learn about this rare and beautiful ceramic tradition. Dinner this evening is at a nearby trout farm, set along a stream running through this peaceful village.
The day begins with a visit to the remote Fantâna Plateau, home to just a few villages and remarkable natural landscapes. We’ll explore the area with a guided tour, including a visit to a bio-mushroom farm and a surreal peat bog, before enjoying a freshly prepared private lunch at a local cheese farm, owned by our friends.
Later, we stop at a small producer of traditional syrups and jams to taste their natural creations. The afternoon is intentionally slower, with time to rest, walk through the forest, or enjoy the guesthouse terrace, while surrounded by a traditional and welcoming way of life.
In the evening, we share dinner at a friend’s farm up in the mountains, surrounded by quiet and open skies.
We begin the day with a 1.5 hour drive to Brateiu, where a Roma family invites us into their home to learn about their culture, craftsmanship, and daily life. This respectful, personal encounter offers insight rarely available to travelers.
From there, we continue to Sighișoara - widely regarded as the best-preserved medieval town in Europe. Our guided walk takes us through cobblestone lanes, to the 400-year-old clock tower, the cathedral, a local liquor cellar, and the birthplace of Vlad Țepeș.
After checking into our hotel, you’ll have free time to enjoy the town’s friendly and unique evening atmosphere.
This morning we travel to Viscri, famous for its beautifully preserved fortified church and rolling green surroundings. The village gained international attention through King Charles’ fondness for its traditions, and it remains one of Romania’s most charming rural settings.
After visiting the church and enjoying lunch, we continue on a 45 minute drive to Meșendorf. This remote Saxon village is where we’ll stay in a remarkable guesthouse surrounded by nature. The afternoon is yours to enjoy the calm village atmosphere and the property itself, before a home-cooked dinner prepared by our wonderful hosts.
After a relaxed breakfast, we begin our return to Bucharest with a few comfort stops along the way. The drive will take approximately 5 hours. Once back in the capital city, we'll check into our centrally-located hotel before some free time - perfect for a café visit, a short walk, or a final bit of exploring.
In the evening, we come together for our farewell dinner and a chance to reflect and celebrate the experiences we’ve shared across Romania.
Private transfers are arranged to the airport according to your flight time, ensuring a smooth and easy departure.

"I wish I could give this trip at least 10 stars. I've been on many tours and this was by far the best. Derek leads such unique, interesting and fun tours. Romania was amazing and that was, in large part, due to him. Meeting local people, seeing their homes and watching them craft items their families have crafted for generations made this tour ultra special and unique. I loved this trip so much that I signed up to go to Istanbul next year. Sign up and go. You won't regret it."

"This was an AMAZING tour of Romania. It was so professional and our tour leader was so friendly and personable. Every single detail was thought of and planned out and yet the pace was relaxed with just the perfect amount of free time built in. I can't rate this tour or company above 5 stars or I would. So looking forward to traveling with these fine folks again. Book with this company, you will not be disappointed!"

"I would give this trip 10 stars if I could! This tour was so fantastic. Romania wasn’t on my radar but I am so glad I went. Derek took care of us so well and every detail was executed flawlessly. Even down to making sure we stopped places I could get coffee to feed my coffee addiction. I would totally recommend this company and plan to go to Morocco with them next year."

"Romania had never been on my radar, but thankfully I got to experience it with the Women Travel Tribe. Our tour leader submerged us into its history, hands-on craftsmanship, local foods and beer, and of course the national drink palinka. This was my very first 100% guided tour and won't be the last. I noticed Derek always tried to get to "yes" no matter what was asked of him. He gave me a trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend giving yourself the gift of Romania."

I’ve already got plans to book them again and anticipate being a serial repeat customer."

"I loved this trip. Our guide Mara was great, informative, and considerate of each traveler. I enjoyed being able to ride in the smaller van to the different cities - enjoying the countryside and feeling the camaraderie of the group. The diversity in things to do and all the food options was amazing."
