The Maine coast has a character all its own, and Bar Harbor is one of the best places to experience it. Here, the shoreline still feels closely tied to the water, with working harbors, crisp sea air, and Acadia National Park just nearby. Get ready for a weekend designed for women over 50 who want an easy coastal escape, good company, and a beautiful part of the USA that feels both peaceful and full of life.

This getaway will bring us into the rhythm of Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. We’ll spend time near the water, explore the town at a relaxed pace, and learn how this seaside community grew from fishing and boatbuilding roots. In Acadia National Park we’ll travel with a local guide along roads that open to ocean views, rocky coastline, and the wide sweep of Frenchman Bay from Cadillac Mountain.

The weekend will also include experiences that make the coast feel more personal. We’ll enjoy a classic Maine lobster lunch by the water, take part in a private stained glass mosaic workshop, and visit Northeast Harbor for a guided garden experience. We’ll also head out on a sunset boat tour with wine and appetizers, giving us a chance to see the shoreline from the water as the light begins to change.

This is a short getaway, but it has the right mix for a refreshing few days away. There will be nature, creativity, sea air, good meals, and time to connect with women who enjoy the same kind of travel. It’s a chance to explore one of the most loved coastal regions in the USA in a way that feels relaxed, thoughtful, and easy to enjoy.

Itinerary

Included meals: Dinner

Upon arrival at Bangor International Airport, you’ll be picked up and transferred to the Bar Harbor region, our home along the Maine coast for the next few days. After checking in at our hotel, you’ll have time to rest or take a first walk near the water. With waterfront views, salt air, and a village feel, Bar Harbor will quickly put you in a slower rhythm. In the evening we’ll gather for a welcome dinner featuring fresh Maine flavors.

Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Today will focus on Bar Harbor’s seaside character and Maine’s creative side. We’ll start with a relaxed morning stroll through town, giving you time to enjoy the waterfront, browse a little, and get a feel for the place at your own pace. Bar Harbor grew from fishing and boatbuilding roots into one of Maine’s best known coastal towns, and you can still feel that connection to the water in the harbor, the shops, and the rhythm of the village. We’ll also take a trolley tour, which will give us an easy way to learn more about the town’s history before sitting down for a great early lunch. We’ll then continue to a private stained glass mosaic workshop, where we’ll work with pieces of colored glass to create our own design. Along the way, we’ll learn how color, shape, light, and texture come together in this hands-on craft. After the workshop, you’ll have free time to enjoy Bar Harbor in your own way. You might walk along the Shore Path, visit shops and galleries, stop at a bookstore, or take a quiet break back at the hotel before dinner.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch

We’ll spend the day exploring Acadia National Park and the coastal communities around Bar Harbor with our local guide. The route will give us a fuller picture of this part of Maine, moving from the park’s ocean views and granite shoreline into the harbors and villages that give Mount Desert Island its regional character. We’ll travel along Acadia’s scenic eastern side, where the road brings us close to the coast and the Atlantic opens below the viewpoints. Along the way we’ll step out for easy walks, sea air, and wide views of the water and surrounding islands. We’ll also ride up Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard, where the view reaches over Frenchman Bay and the islands near Bar Harbor. Later we’ll continue beyond the park into the working side of Mount Desert Island, where lobster boats, shoreline roads, and small communities show how closely life here is tied to the sea. Lunch will be at a working lobster pound in Southwest Harbor, where we’ll enjoy a classic Maine lobster lunch by the water. In the afternoon, we’ll follow the island’s quieter coastline before returning to Bar Harbor for the evening.

Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

We’ll spend part of the day in Northeast Harbor, a quieter village on Mount Desert Island with a sheltered harbor and a long love of gardens. Our private guided tour will bring us into two very different garden settings. At Asticou Azalea Garden, we’ll walk through a Japanese inspired landscape adapted to the Maine coast, where the paths, water, stones, and seasonal plantings are arranged with real care. From there we’ll continue to Thuya Garden, set above the village in a wooded area that feels more tucked away. As we walk, our guide will share how these gardens grew from the island’s landscape traditions and why they remain such a special part of Northeast Harbor. Later in the evening we’ll head out on a sunset boat tour with wine and appetizers, seeing the coast from the water as the light begins to change. It will be a beautiful way to finish the trip and say goodbye to Maine.
